Energy

The South West of Western Australia is the centre of the State’s electricity generation, storage and transmission network, forming the backbone of the South West Interconnected System (SWIS). Anchored by long-established infrastructure around Collie, the region has supplied reliable power to homes, businesses and industry across Western Australia for more than a century and continues to underpin the State’s economic and industrial base.

The region is also emerging as a major hub for energy storage and system support, with large-scale battery projects around Collie strengthening grid stability and supporting the integration of renewable generation. These assets complement the SWIS Transmission Plan, which focuses on upgrading and expanding the network to connect new generation, storage and industrial loads, ensuring the system remains resilient, flexible and fit for long-term growth.

With extensive transmission infrastructure, growing storage capacity, access to strong renewable resources and proximity to energy-intensive industries, the South West offers a well-connected platform for energy investment.
